Cape Law is a law firm specializing in small and civil claims, with a focus on a range of areas including:
– Consumer disputes, such as product or service issues
– Employment-related cases, including workplace disputes
– Housing and rent matters, like landlord-tenant disagreements
– Personal injury cases, including accidents and injuries
– Debt collection and financial disputes
– Privacy and defamation concerns
Our expertise covers these key areas, ensuring specialized legal support for your specific needs
To file your case, we primarily need the address of the party you are suing. If it’s a business, their legal entity name is necessary.
The time frame for filing a small claim can vary due to factors like your state, available evidence, and complexity of the legal issue(s). Upon submission of your case details, our attorneys will review the facts and applicable laws to make sure your case is eligible to proceed. After that, we will prepare the relevant filing documents for your review and approval, followed by filling in the appropriate court. This part of the process usually takes between 1-3 weeks. The court’s processing time and next available hearing dates vary by state.
Cape Law offers an unbundled pay-as-you-go fee structure to clients. No expensive retainers that make retaining an attorney a big financial decision. No billable hours and invoices that are riddled with legalese. All fees are transparent, fair, and flat-rate per service. Cape Law’s investment in technology helps simplify the legal process and allows clients to easily participate in the case process. The intake process is simple and efficient, emphasizing Cape Law’s commitment to making legal services available, affordable, and approachable.
At Cape Law, we’re committed to offering our services at rates that everyone can afford. We believe legal help should be accessible to all. Here’s how we can assist you:
Attorney Consultation: For just $29, you can consult an attorney to understand your legal situation and explore your next steps. This fee includes the initial call. After this, the attorney may recommend additional services to resolve your legal issues, depending on their evaluation and a conflict check.
Standard Demand Letter: Have an attorney draft a demand letter for $170. You’ll sign this formal request for action or payment. Our legal expertise ensures your demands are clear and authoritative.
Filing a Small Claims Court Case: Our services begin at $350, with prices varying by jurisdiction and court requirements. We handle the entire small claim filing process. This includes finding the correct jurisdiction, preparing documents, filing with the court, serving the other party, and keeping you updated on your case’s progress. An attorney prepares a statement of claim for you to sign as part of this package.
Cape Law does not provide in-court representation. In many jurisdictions, attorneys may not represent parties in small claims courts. However, pro se (or unrepresented) parties may always seek the advice and other services of an attorney in the small claims process. Cape Law offers pro se support services from filing to judgment collection. Our attorneys can research and prepare briefs for you to submit to the judge, review and prepare trial exhibits, and if you are the prevailing party, help collect on the judgment entered in your favor.
Small claims courts are designed to provide judicial determinations of civil disputes involving a limited amount of money. The procedures of small claims courts are significant for affordability, speed and simplicity. Since many routine small claims do not involve profound questions of law, small claims courts simplify the elaborate legal process–which means, you can represent yourself with or without the assistance of counsel.
